Women’s Health Research

Investing in women’s health research is an investment in a stronger society.

We know that women's health research is egregiously underfunded. That's why we are committed to investing in research which inspires innovation, necessitates a response, and that ultimately transform systems which can save women's lives.

There is no greater opportunity to change the tide on women’s health than an investment in research, its translation, and ultimate implementation.” - Genesa M. Greening, President + CEO of BC Women’s Hospital Foundation.

Through the research arm of BC Women’s Hospital, the Women’s Health Research Institute (WHRI), BC Women’s works to advance knowledge and care for women, newborns, and their families, across BC and around the world.

The WHRI is one of Canada’s only research institutes devoted to the generation and dissemination of new knowledge on women’s health.

There are nearly 140 member researchers who focus on seven areas including: women-specific cancers; chronic disease; sexual and reproductive health; maternal, fetal and newborn health; global health; genomics and personalized health; and, reproductive infectious diseases.

Opportunities to make an impact that will last generations

When women thrive, so do their families and communities. The WHRI is dedicated to creating new knowledge and evidence-based solutions that inform and transform the health and health care of women and their families. Through funding for innovative research projects, visionary donors can create a better future for women, girls, and all of society.

We have an obligation to ensure that these novel discoveries in women’s health inform our policies at local, national, and international levels” –  Dr. Lori Brotto, Executive Director, WHRI
