Osteofit Coordinator Debbie Cheong recognized with Osteoporosis Canada’s Community Partner Award

Osteoporosis Canada’s Community Partner Award is presented annually to those special organizations that have fostered and promoted the work of Osteoporosis Canada.

The 2012 award was presented to Debbie Cheong, Osteofit Coordinator for British Columbia by Dr. Famida Jiwa, President and CEO of Osteoporosis Canada, at the public education forum “AFTER THE BREAK” in Victoria, BC on November 1, 2012.

Thousands of British Columbians affected by osteoporosis have attended OSTEOFIT classes over the past 10 years.  Started by a small group of women who had to fight to keep the program going, there are now 120 classes in BC led by more than 50 certified instructors.

OSTEOFIT is a BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre certified exercise, education and falls prevention program.  It acknowledges the fact that appropriate exercise is an important component of a comprehensive treatment regime that also includes medication and nutrition.

Debbie Cheong, the Provincial Coordinator for OSTEOFIT is a tireless promoter of the benefits of the services we provide at Osteoporosis Canada.  Indeed, many British Columbians now belong to the Canadian Osteoporosis Patient Network and to Osteoporosis Canada because of Debbie and her Osteofit colleagues across the province.

For its outstanding contributions to the health and well-being of British Columbians affected by osteoporosis, OSTEOFIT is an especially fitting recipient of Osteoporosis Canada’s Community Partner Award.

Thank you Debbie, and thank you Osteofit.
