Bunches of Love for Mom

Keri became closely acquainted with BC Women’s Hospital on September 7, 2007 when she delivered her first baby.

Keri and BabyCTV news anchor, Keri Adams, and her one-year-old daughter, Abigail, are the new faces of the 2009 Bunches of Love campaign. Formerly known as Mums for Moms, the campaign raises thousands of dollars each year for BC Women’s, thanks to the generous sponsorship of MarketPlace IGA, Black Press and CTV. Keri became closely acquainted with BC Women’s Hospital on September 7, 2007 when she delivered her first baby.

Her scheduled cesarean section was still two weeks away and she was at work when her water suddenly broke on the newsroom floor.

It wasn’t exactly the day she had planned to give birth. Her scheduled cesarean section was still two weeks away and she was at work when her water suddenly broke on the newsroom floor. “I tried to be cool and calm,” she says. “But I didn’t know what was going on.”

She went back to her desk and called over a female producer who was also a mother. She whisked Keri off to the bathroom and called her husband and within an hour, they were at BC Women’s. “I remember it was a beautiful, hot sunny weekend and when we arrived, I hadn’t started having contractions and my husband and I were told to go for a walk,” she said. “So there I was in my hospital gown, walking around the parking lot with my IV trailing behind me.”

At 5:12 pm, Abigail was born,
healthy and happy at 6.5 pounds

When she got back inside, the contractions really started. She was waiting patiently for her time in the operating room, and just when the baby was really starting to come, she got her turn. At 5:12 pm, Abigail was born, healthy and happy at 6.5 pounds. “It was a huge and great surprise,” Keri recalls. “Everyone was so helpful and encouraging. One nurse showed us how to bathe the baby, and she was holding her like a football, like it was nothing. I thought then that I’d never be able to do it. I was so intimidated.”

But because of her positive experience at BC Women’s, Keri, who is pregnant with her second child (another girl, due in July) is going to try to give birth naturally. “I know I can do it,” she says, beaming and bouncing her little girl on her knee.

The 2009 Bunches of Love campaign began April 12, 2009.
