Bentwood Boxes for Charity Raises $10,850

December 14, 2010: Lattimer Gallery held a silent auction for two weeks in December, with 100% of proceeds going to the Aboriginal Health Program at BC Women's Hospital. The goal was to raise $5,000. The final amount raised was $10,850.

This year, Lattimer Gallery worked with the Aboriginal Health Program at BC Women's Hospital. The goal of this program is to improve the quality of hospital experiences for Aboriginal women, children and families.

The promotion and collected funds have been generously donated by Lattimer Gallery. All of the work in the creation of these beautiful cedar boxes has been donated as well: the boxes were steam-bent and donated by Metis/Cree artist James Michels. Established Northwest Coast First Nations artists then decorated the boxes with shallow relief carving and/or painting to bring out the coastal design.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Peter Lattimer and these talented artists for their commitment in raising funds and awareness for our Aboriginal Health Program.
